Vomeronasal Organ

Olfactory canal in the nasal mucosa that ends as a blind pouch in the anterior portion of the palate of many mammals. It appears to be sensitive to female pheromones and allows males to assess the reproductive status of a female. Present in prosimians, tarsiers, and platyrrhines, but not among the Catarrhini. Aka Jacobsen’s organ.
