Weathering Stage

Series developed by Behrensmeyer to describe taphonomic effects of weather on skeletal elements at paleontological or archaeological sites, as follows:

1. some longitudinal cracking on the surface;

2. cracks more pronounced with flakes separated from the surface;

3. exterior surface roughened;

4. deep cracks with extensive flakes;

5. bone disintegration.
