Wobble Hypothesis

Proposal to explain major elements of redundancy in the genetic code in terms of the third base in the triplet sequences that specify amino acid transcription; since a majority of codons that specify the same amino acid differ in the third position only, Francis Crick suggested that the first two bases are necessary, allowing for a certain degree of wobble in the third base position.
